ANC Women’s League president, Bathabile Dlamini who is facing perjury charges is resisting calls to step aside as ANC Women’s League president.
The ANC women’s league heard calls for it to be disbanded and for Bathabile Dlamini to step aside during its national working committee meeting last week, but the RET champion maintains that she will not do so.
Her supporters also feel that Bathabile Dlamini is being persecuted politically after she spoke about the need to support a female ANC president. She has also been at the forefront supporting Jacob Zuma and suspended secretary general, Ace Magashule.
Calls for Bathabile Dlamini to step aside are being made by comrades who feel she should not remain ANC Women League president while having pending criminal case.
Just like Ace Magashule stepped aside due to his corruption charges, calls are being made for Bathabile Dlamini to also face the music and relinquish her position.
It however seems that within the ANC, there is not really a clean soul among the leaders. At some point Bathabile Dlamini once argued that most ANC comrades have their little skeletons in their closets and it was only a matter of time before everything was brought to light.
Some speculations have it that Bathabile Dlamini is being forced to step aside due to her RET connections. ANC Women’s League as a vital party structure is feared that if it rallies behind an RET candidate at the December elective conference, it might be a huge disadvantage to president Cyril Ramaphosa.
The ANC Women’s League is alleged to have been pushing for tourism minister, and National Executive Committee member, Lindiwe Sisulu for ANC presidency. The league laments that female comrades are being sidelined from the party’s top six, yet women are among the majority of those who vote.
