AmaZulu are leading the race to sign Zambia international playmaker Larry Bwalya from Simba Sports Club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Usuthu are currently embarking on a squad revamp with as many as 13 players set to leave the club as of 1 July, President Sandile Zungu confirmed last week.

The 26-year-old is likely to be one of the eight incomings as they look to bolster the first-team squad for newly appointed head coach Brandon Truter to fight for silverware next season.

iDiski Times understands that Usuthu has agreed on personal terms with the player, while Simba is open to the exit of the Zambian star as they also look towards a squad rebuild ahead of next season with Pablo Franco Martin already sacked as head coach before even being allowed to officially sign a player since his arrival.

The Tanzanian giants are set to finish the season trophyless after being knocked out of the Azam Sports Federation Cup semi-final by fierce rivals Young Africans this weekend and major squad changes are expected.

Kaizer Chiefs were credited with an interest in the player 12 months ago but interest cooled down when Simba issued a hands-off warning, having already lost Luis Miquissone to Al Ahly, while it’s believed the player has fielded offers from North Africa recently.

However, it’s understood that Bwalya is keen on the idea of moving to South Africa after confiding with some of his international teammates, with whom he’s on duty ahead of their clash against Ivory Coast and Comoros in their opening 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers over the coming days.

Bwalya has been one of their standout players on the continent since his arrival two seasons ago from Power Dynamos, scoring three goals in 10 appearances in the CAF Champions League.
