Al Ahly have lost the Egyptian Cup final to bitter rivals Zamalek 2-1 on Thursday evening.

The Club of the Century missed out on their first trophy since Pitso Mosimane left, losing the game in the first half.

Goals by Zizo in the sixth minute and Emam Ashour in the 30th minute gave Zamalek a 2-0 half-time lead.

Hossam Hassan pulled one back for Al Ahly but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat,

It was the second successive defeat for new coach Ricardo Soares after Ahly already lost to Pyramids in the league,  which was a big blow in the title race.

Percy Tau was not included in the match day squad and is still recovering from his latest injury.

During his time at Al Ahly, Mosimane never lost to Zamalek, beating them thrice, while collecting one draw. He had also guided Al Ahly to a Cup win in 2019/2020.

Zamalek, meanwhile, lifted the Egyptian Cup for the 28th time.
