Al Ahly have dropped points in the league debut of Pitso Mosimane successor Ricardo Soares.

The Egyptian giants failed to beat El Gouna on Tuesday evening, only collecting a goalless draw in one of their three catch-up games.

The match was new head coach Soares’ first league game in charge after Al Ahly had beaten Petrojet 2-0 in the Egyptian Cup during the Portuguese’s first match on the sidelines.

Percy Tau didn’t feature on Tuesday as he is still sidelined with injury.

Al Ahly have dropped seven points in four games since Mosimane has left the club, meaning they can now only level Zamelek’s tally of 51 points, should they win their last two games in hand.

The ‘Club of the Century’ sit in third place with 45 points from 21 games, while Pyramids have 49 points and Zamalek have 51, with both of the latter having played 23 games already.

Al Ahly next face fourth-placed Future in the league on 12 July.
