Al Ahli Saudi president Walid Moaz has broken his silence on Pitso Mosimane’s future, saying the club will make a call after the final league game.
Mosimane and his South African technical team had reason to celebrate on Tuesday after leading the Jeddah giants to the Yelo League (Saudi First Division) title following a 1-0 win over Al-Qadisiyah.
They secured the title with one game to spare after rivals Al Akhdood lost to Al Sahel SC and dropped into third place – weeks after already securing the promotion back to the Saudi Pro League of the fallen giants.
However, despite Mosimane’s sterling job, the club seems to have decided not to activate a one-year option to extend his contract, as reported by iDiski Times.
President Moaz addressed Mosimane’s situation in a recent tv interview, saying the decision will be made after the final league fixture, but hinted at “great ambition”.
“After the last game [against] Al-Hazem in the league, we will decide at that time whether or not the coach will continue,” he told Kora.
“And Pitso Mosimane performed well with the team, but the ambition is greater.”
Mosimane found Al Ahli in fifth place of the Yelo League when he took over in October 2022 and lead them back into the Saudi Pro League with his first attempt.
The Jeddah giants had been relegated for the first time in the club’s history, but it rumoured the club’s leadership want to go with a European name into the new season after returning to the top flight.
