  • ActionSA mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo will hand himself over to police this Monday following an imminent arrest warrant.
  • The charges involve the alleged assault of a self-confessed drug dealer during a 2025 raid, which Khumalo labels as criminal harassment.
  • ActionSA is backing Khumalo, citing the case as a symptom of systemic corruption and a targeted attempt to derail his anti-drug campaign.

ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Cllr Xolani Khumalo, will voluntarily hand himself over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) this Monday, 19 January.

The decision follows internal leaks suggesting an imminent arrest regarding the alleged assault of a self-confessed drug dealer during a 2025 raid in Katlehong.

Khumalo proactively sought a meeting with SAPS to clarify the situation after hearing reports of his planned detention.

He has characterised the move as “another round of harassment” by criminal elements, framed as retaliation for his ongoing campaign against drug syndicates in the Ekurhuleni region.

The charges stem from a 2025 incident where Khumalo accompanied police to a suspect’s residence. Although unlicensed ammunition was found, the suspect was later released and the ammunition returned.

This individual subsequently filed the assault charge against Khumalo, a move ActionSA claims is part of a broader criminal network investigation.

ActionSA has pledged to accompany Khumalo on Monday in a show of solidarity.

The party highlighted the case as a symptom of systemic law enforcement failures, citing past instances where known criminals were apprehended but never charged. They confirmed they will be monitoring the police’s handling of the matter closely.
