He became the second black Zimbabwean to play rugby for the Springboks in South Africa. In 2010, Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma gave him South African citizenship.

He made his debut for South Africa against Wales in 2008. Years later, he went down in the history books as one of the most capped Springbok, joining the likes of Victor Matfield and Bryan Habana.
