Rulani – Let’s Not Be Sour Grapes But There’s A Penalty

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena said his side should’ve had a penalty in their MTN8 final defeat to Orlando Pirates, but also congratulated the Buccaneers on the win.

Both teams couldn’t be separated in 120 minutes, with Pirates beating Sundowns 3-1 on penalties after Sipho Chaine saved three penalties.

It was Jose Riveiro’s third domestic cup title, while Mokwena and his men failed to lift the club’s second MTN8 trophy.

After the match, Mokwena congratulated his opponents, but did mention he felt his side should’ve had a penalty.

“That’s football. If you leave it to penalties, it’s lottery. Congratulations to Orlando Pirates for winning it,” he said on SABC 1.

“Still very proud of player, we struggled, we’ve had so many issues. But the boys gave it their all. Peter played with an injury, and in the end he couldn’t go any longer.

“But commiserations to Sundowns, congratulations to Pirates. We are not sore losers…

“Difficult… There is a penalty that we didn’t get, there is a clear penalty. But let’s not go there. It’s sour grapes, isn’t it?”
