FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Gauteng and the western and southern parts of Limpopo.

ADVISORIES:

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over Gauteng, North West, north-eastern parts of the Free State, the Phokwane and Magareng local municipalities of the Northern Cape, the western and southern parts of Limpopo and the western Highveld of Mpumalanga until and including Sunday (08 October).

Conditions and UVB forecast

Gauteng

Temperature: Fine and hot, becoming partly cloudy from the afternoon. It will be very hot in places in the north.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme

Mpumalanga

Temperature: Fine in the west at first where it will be hot, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, but cloudy in the east with drizzle and fog along the escarpment and isolated thundershowers over the eastern Highveld.

Limpopo

Temperature: Fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon, but cloudy and warm in the east with drizzle and fog along the escarpment. It will be extremely hot in places in the south-western Bushveld.

North West

Temperature: Fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy.

Free State

Temperature: Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thundershowers in the east in the afternoon.

Northern Cape

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool in the south, otherwise fine and warm but hot in the north and north-east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly to southerly, but strong in the afternoon.

Western Cape

Temperature: Cloudy with light isolated showers and rain mainly over the eastern parts, becoming partly cloudy and cool from the afternoon, but fine and warm in the west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable along the south coast at first, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, becoming easterly along the south coast from the evening. It will be strong in places along the west and south-west coast.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Cloudy and cool to cold with light rain in places.

The Western half – The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly, becoming light to moderate south-easterly in the afternoon.

The Eastern half: Cloudy and cool to cold with light rain in places, but scattered showers and rain can be expected along the coast and adjacent interior.

The Eastern half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming light southerly in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with light rain in places but scattered showers and rain in the south. It will be cold in the south-west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly.
