Masutha Resigns After Maritzburg Utd Thrashing

Venda Football Club head coach Joel Masutha has resigned after the club suffered a thumping 5-1 defeat to Maritzburg United.

Maunavhathu appointed Masutha in February after the dismissal of Simo Dladla. He managed to keep Venda FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, as they finished 12th place, 15 points above relegation.

But the former Pretoria Callies coach didn’t start the season well with Venda, as they only won one out of six matches and suffered three defeats.

According to a close source Masutha resigned with immediate effect after the 5-1 defeat against Maritzburg United on Wednesday night.

It is not yet clear who will take over at the club, but Johnny Ferreira, who has led the club before, has been named as the leading candidate.

The Limpopo-based side have not much time, though, as they will face Baroka on Sunday on match-day seven of the 2023/24 campaign.
