Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter has lauded the effort by his players as they played to a 1-1 draw in the DRC against Saint Etoi Lupopo, to book their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

Sekhukhune went through 4-2 on aggregate, after winning 3-1 in the first leg two weeks ago.

Truter said it was very tough in the heat in Kinshasa, and he praised the efforts from his players in trying circumstances.

“Ja, very, very tough game,” Truter told the club’s media department.

“Excluding the travel, excluding the fact that we played on an astroturf and the heat as well, at times was unbeatable.

“But today was all about character. I think everybody that was called upon, each player, did very well. They knew what was required here, we didn’t rest on the fact that we had a two-goal lead.

“They put us under pressure. We knew coming here, a two goal lead wouldn’t be safe, and we needed to score. And they put us under pressure from the from the first whistle.

“But ja, you can see the early goal, and then they exerted even more pressure. But they left so much space behind them. I think second half, we did tremendously well, by playing into that spaces, and then of course, playing on the counter.

“But it was more about the character, the attitude, the want to win, and the efforts the boys put in today.

So ja, as much as it give credit to, to the boys, we also give credit to God. It’s not an easy place to come to. And he was with us.

“So ja, the results about the boys and we move on to the next round.”
