Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has opened up on the difficulites of managing a squad with many stars.
The Bucs squad is with no doubt one of the best in the PSL with many quality players who can easily walk straight to any team and become regular starters.
This season, the Soweto giants have been hit with many injury setbacks as some of the players like Thembinkosi Lorch and Vincent Pule are yet to kick the ball.
This has afforded other players with the opportunity to showcase themselves in the field as other stars are nearing closer to making a return.
JOSE RIVEIRO ON MANAGING A SQUAD WITH TOO MANY QUALITY PLAYERS
According to the Spanish coach, it’s difficult to manage a star-studded squad, however he’s luck because they got good professionals.
“It goes without saying, it’s difficult, but at the same time I said on many occassions that I’m lucky. The players, I understand sometimes they can be upset, but they’re very good professionals,” said Riveiro.
“They understand they’re playing for Pirates, the squad is big, the quality is very high. We try to be fair, we try to complete as good as possible.
“For the coach, it’s difficult when your’re in the last days of the week. You have to think about how can I be close to be fair because I connot be totally fair.
HOW JOSE RIVEIRO SELECTS HIS STARTING XI
Riveiro further stated how he selects his starting 11 ahead of a match.
“I don’t choose the players because I like one player more than the other.
“I just try to be fair with the situation, thinking about the game that is coming, how can I guarantee that the team is going to perform,” he added.
