Moroka Swallows head coach Steve Komphela believes that luck fell on his side in the controversial 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United.
Both sides had scored in the first half through Lindokuhle Mtshali and Chibuike Ohizu and in injury time Gabadinho Mhango was seen pushing Sekhukhune goalkeeper Badre Ali Sangare who had control of the ball at the time of the incident.
That spelt heartbreak for Ba Bina Noko and the first win of the season for the Dube Birds. The result saw Swallows climb up to sixth position on the log with four points while Sekhukhune were eighth with three points.
Komphela says the encounter was an intense one and luck fell on his side because of hard work and determination.
“The game ends the way it had been happening. It was very intense, there were moments for either team could win it,” Komphela told the media after the game.
“And I thought we had a couple of chances even in the first half there were moments where I thought we should bury it but we didn’t.
“Sometimes we have to be a little bit more ruthless. There was a chance again from Mhango where he dragged the ball from a corner kick, went on and played the ball diagonal to Mabasa. We should have taken that one as well but all in all, I think because of the hard work, the determination, the desire we showed and luck fell on our side.
“Whether the goal has got its own questions and all that, but listen you got to work for it. It showed that we wanted it desperately. I mean we couldn’t go on with all the good work, the good play, the good attitude without getting a result and the heavens have smiled with us.”
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach says though the win wasn’t exactly classy Swallows have been rewarded for their hard work not just in the match in Polokwane but even the opening two.
“I think differently. A win has to be a win but that win has to be classy. This one at the back of we played well I thought so and they gave us a good, good game.
“But the win is a reflection of how hard we fought, whether it was your Malinga, whether it was your Mabasa, whether it was a Sam, whether Keegan Allan, Kennan Phillips we really fought even the likes of Mthethwa, Phalane and Van Rhyn. When a result comes like this football is more like a thing it responds to how you talk to it.
“There is language, unspoken language in football so if you work hard for whatever reason you get rewarded.

“For the past three matches, I thought we’ve had the worst when it comes to arbitrators. It hasn’t been easy even in the last match that we played and again today I know we had to fight but we are happy that we got three points.”
