Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Cole Alexander has joined Stuart Baxter at Helsingborgs IF, the club announced on Thursday.

Alexander, 34, left Chiefs after both parties agreed to mutually terminate his contract in June.

He had joined Chiefs from Indian side Odisha, where he already worked under Stuart Baxter, in July 2021. Overall, he made 28 appearances over the past two seasons, scoring once but only featured seven times under Arthur Zwane in 2022/23.

The midfielder now completed a move to Helsingborgs IF after agreeing onto a deal until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

“It’s an incredible feeling. In South Africa, my childhood dream was to someday play in Europe and now I finally get the opportunity to do it,” he told his new club’s website.

“It feels even more special when I get the chance to see the city, get to know the club and experience the supporters live.

“Although I have played many big games in packed stands, I have never before experienced such an atmosphere as you have here. I am very happy and grateful to have been given this opportunity.

“Stuart is the best in the business and I have always loved playing under him.”

Mikael Dahlberg, sporting manager at HIF, added: “Cole is an intense and experienced midfielder that our head coach Stuart Baxter has worked with before and would like to be reunited with.

“We have seen him in our training environment and make the assessment that it is a player who can be involved and benefit at once, says.”

Helsingborgs IF play in the Swedish second tier, Superettan after being relegated in the 2022 Allsvenskan season.
