Polokwane City co-coach Lehlohonolo Seema has given credit to his players after they registered their first victory in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

An own goal by Ismael Toure in the 35th minute owing to the City pressure, was enough for the Limpopo side to grab a win against Stellenbosch FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

The win sees Rise and Shine climb into eighth spot with three points on the log after two matches.

Seema says Stellies are not an easy team and he is pleased that his players keep giving themselves a chance even though people are writing them off.

“Credit must go to the boys, I think they have worked very hard. And it showed last week that these guys as much it’s a lot of people that are not giving them a chance they are ready to put a fight,” Seema told the media after the game.

“And credit must go to the chairman because chairman is believing in these guys that have worked to promote the team.

“He started the team with them, rewarding them to make sure that fight and test. While everybody bolstered their team the chairman continued with the team that got promoted.

“So it shows that he’s got belief behind the team and these guys the way they are working, it was very unfortunate last week that last game that we conceded in the last two minutes of optional time.

“We never put our head down because that was a performance that we can take a lot of positives from it. It showed today.

“We are happy that the first game of the season in front of our supporters we could come and play against a very good side. Stellenbosch is not an easy team but we managed to lock them”

City’s next match is against Cape Town Spurs on 19 August at home, while Stellenbosch face SuperSport United in MTN8 quarter-final on Sunday.
