Richards Bay have set their sights on Maritzburg United attacking midfielder Rowan Human, iDiski Times has learnt.
Human, despite Maritzburg suffering relegation, was the shining light of the club during the PSL promotion and relegation play-offs, scoring three of four goals they scored.
But it was not enough as they couldn’t beat Cape Town Spurs in the last match of the mini-league at home on Wednesday, where their relegation from the top flight was sealed.
The number 10, who is a product of Bidvest Wits’ academy, joined the Team of Choice at the beginning of the 2021/22 season under coach Ernst Middendorp, featuring in 21 matches in all competitions, netting a solitary goal.
This past season, Human saw his numbers increase, racking up 31 matches in all competitions, scoring three goals, which all came from play-offs.
This publication has learnt that Bay are keen on his services, which would offer him a chance to stay in KwaZulu-Natal and in the top flight.
Bay started well last in 2022/23 but then their campaign fizzled off in the second half, which saw them finish in 13th position in the DStv Premiership, winning just one league game in the entire second half of the season.
Bay coach Vasili Manousakis has an uncertain future at the club, with different sources saying he will not be retained and others saying his future will be known sometime next week.
Manousakis was given the head coaching role in March until the end of the season, as the club was looking at stopping their winless streak, but the change didn’t halt it.
But Bay, although Manousakis’ future is not clear, has been signing players such as Lucky Mohomi and Letsie Koapang.
Later on Thursday, the club confirmed two more, capturing Thato Mohlamme from Uthongathi and eSwatini international striker Justice Figareido from All Stars.
