Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has questioned Hugo Broos’ selection of Nyiko Mobbie over Khuliso Mudau for his latest Bafana Bafana squad.
In the right-back position, the Belgian tactician once again went with Sekhukhune United’s Mobbie ahead of DStv Premiership Defender of the Season, Mudau, who was part of the preliminary squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco but did not make the final cut.
Bafana and Morocco, who have already qualified from Group K for the continental showpiece to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year, will face each other on 17 June at FNB Stadium.
The iDiski TV analyst argues that the 28-year-old Mudau has enjoyed a better season than Mobbie, while he also has better qualities.
“This doesn’t just hurt Sundowns, it doesn’t just hurt Khuliso this hurts the nation,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.
“What they are doing now is favour and this thing has been happening it doesn’t start with Hugo Broos.
“So if we are to improve we can’t look back we have to move forward. This guy is the Defender of the Season who has played the Champions League, won the league and playing regularly in the DStv Premiership.
“He is currently the best defender. I had my doubts about him when he arrived at Sundowns. Nyiko Mobbie plays for Sekhukhune and doesn’t play Champions League and I’ve watched Nyiko Mobbie playing against France and on other games as well.
“The way he has applied himself, you can’t compare and truly speaking it doesn’t make sense. Currently Mudau deserves to play ahead of this guy.
“Unless he got injured or made blunders maybe Nyiko could be called because I don’t understand Hugo Broos. He is predictable I think he’s arrogant and has programmed himself to say I don’t care what others are doing I will call him.
“It doesn’t make sense. The points I’m making are important. This guy is the Defender of The Season, he won the DStv Premiership playing regularly at Sundowns, he also did well in the Champions League. Nyiko’s team has improved from last season but I don’t think he is better than Mudau.”
