South African winger Kobamelo Kodisang has secured a permanent move to Moreirense after their promotion to the Portuguese top-flight.
The 23-year-old winger, who has been named in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad to face Morocco, has enjoyed a standout season in the second tier on loan from SC Braga.
It marks a real career breakthrough for the mercurial talent, who made his professional debut eight years ago at the age of 15 for the now-defunct Platinum Stars in the South African top-flight under then-head coach Cavin Johnson.
‘Koba’ was strongly linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs before the start of the season that passed but Braga tied him down on a new deal before his loan to the side he’s just steered to a title win with 11 goals and five assists in 29 league games.
The player confirmed to iDiski Times that he’s now completed a permanent move ahead of the 2023/24 season after they activated a clause that came into effect after winning promotion to the Primera Liga, said to be a three-year deal with an option to extend.
It marks another exciting step in his journey with a senior national team debut looming and his first top-flight season in Portugal on the horizon four years after initially arriving in the country on loan from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits to Sanjoanense in the third tier.
His form there earned him a move to Braga, but he only featured once for the first team over three seasons despite being one of their standout talents in the reserve team.
Overall, Kodisang has netted 31 league goals in 81 league starts since leaving the PSL for a move to Europe.
