Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise has picked his Coach of the Season for the 2022/23 PSL season.
The Coach of the Season award has been one of the most spoken-about accolades as the end-of-season PSL awards loom large.
As the curtains falls on the 2022/23 campaign with the Nedbank Cup final between Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United, the top performers will be awarded on Sunday 28th of May.
The three coaches shortlisted for the prestigious Coach of the Season award is Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena, Gavin Hunt of SuperSport United and Pirates’ Jose Riveiro.
Mokwena guided his side to the DStv Premiership title, while Riveiro and Hunt finished second and third on the league table. The Pirates coach also won the MTN8 trophy and in the Nedbank Cup final.
With the debate brewing on who should be named Coach of the Season, Modise, one of the Nedbank Cup ambassadors has revealed who should walk away with the award.
TEKO MODISE WEIGH IN ON COACH OF THE SEASON DEBATE
“I think the Coach of the Season is based on the DStv Premiership not the Cups,” Modise said.
“So it shouldn’t even be a debate Rulani Mokwena should be the one winning the award. He won the league. It’s simple and straightforward.
The retired star who’s now a football pundit also commented on the Footballer of the Season award.
“Two players stood out for me, Teboho Mokoena stood out for me in a sense that he continued with the same performance into the national team and CAF Champions League.
“It’s a very difficult thing to be consistent in South Africa as a Footballer. Also Monnapule Saleng was a breakthrough, I think he surprised everybody.
“He helped Orlando Pirates, scored many goals for the club so he was the most important play for Pirates.
“Also looking at the injuries they had with their attacking players and Saleng stood out, so whoever take it from these two players I’ll be happy,” he added.
