Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic have dismissed rumours they have approached Pitso Mosimane, who seems likely to leave Saudi Arabian giants Al Ahli Jeddah.
The South African tactician has been linked with a departure from Al Ahli Saudi despite leading them back into the Saudi Pro League and also securing the Yelo League title.
It is understood that the club’s leadership would prefer an European coach to lead them into the 2023/24 campaign, with names such as Juventus boss Massiliano Allegri being sounded out, as reported by iDiski Times.
The club’s president Walid Moaz, said they will only make a decision on the coach’s future after the final league match against Al-Hazem, but also cryptically stated “the ambition is greater”.
Mosimane himself has released a few cryptic messages on social media, stating recently “mission accomplished”, while saying “waiting for the next project” after securing the title this week.
With Mosimane seemingly back on the market, several big African teams have immediately been linked with his name – one of them being three-time CAF Champions League winners Raja CA.
They were knocked out of the Champions League by Al Ahly in the quarter-final, losing 2-0 on aggregate despite going unbeaten through the group stages (five wins and just one draw).
In the Botola Pro league they only sit in sixth position after winning just nine of their 26 games this season, which has cast a doubt over the future of head coach Mondher Kebaier.
However, the club have dismissed rumours that they have made an approach for Mosimane to replace Kebaier.
“The club did not enter into negotiations with Pitso Musimani in order to be a substitute for Tunisian Mondher Al-Kabir,” a spokesperson told Yallakora.
Al Ahli play their final game on 29 May and it remains to be seen what the future holds for South Africa’s most successful coach, who clinched the 19th title of his illustrious career this week.
