Following his exit from Kaizer Chiefs, FARPost looks at two clubs Erick Mathoho could join ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Amakhosi on Thursday announced the end of their journey with ‘Tower’, with his contract set to end in June.
The 33-year-old joined the club in 2012 from Bloemfontein Celtic and tasted a lot of cup success at Naturena.
However, he has been sidelined by injuries, among other things, this season, only making a one-minute appearance.
The club opted against renewing his contract when it expired at the end of June.
“One of Kaizer Chiefs’ longest-serving players Mulomowandau Erick Mathoho, will sadly leave the Club as we conclude the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
“Mathoho, who is now 33, joined Chiefs in July 2012 as a 22-year-old from Bloemfontein Celtic, where he spent three seasons.
“We wish ‘Tower’ well in the future. Vha tshimbile zwavhudi vhoMathoho,” read the club’s statement.
ERICK MATHOHO COULD JOIN….
The former Bafana Bafana defender is being linked to Sekhukhune United and TS Galaxy.
“He’s definitely a player the club is considering, but the challenge is that he’ll have to consider a salary adjustment. It’ll depend on what he decides,” a Sekhukhune source said.
Another source close to the player said there was interest from TS Galaxy. In his 11 years at Chiefs, Mathoho made over 250 appearances for the club. Mathoho scored 26 goals in Chiefs colours, also representing the national team.
He won two domestic league titles with the club in the 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons. In his trophy cabinet, he also has the MTN8 medal.
Chiefs have already signed two defenders, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango. The Botswana international, Ditlhokwe, joins them from SuperSport United, while Msimango is coming from TS Galaxy.
