The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has launched an investigation into the company owned by Edwin Sodi, following reports of financial mismanagement related to the Rooiwal wastewater treatment plant in Hammanskraal.
Sodi’s company had been awarded a significant contract worth R295 million for the upgrade of the plant.
The SIU aims to uncover any irregularities in the allocation and use of funds, shedding light on the portion that remains unaccounted for.
The investigation comes at a time when the community of Hammanskraal is grappling with tragedy, as 20 lives have been lost in water-related incidents. In response to this distressing situation, the SIU has initiated a thorough examination of the Rooiwal water treatment plant project.
Preliminary information suggests that the funds intended for improving the local water system have not been properly accounted for.
While the initial complaint received by the SIU targeted the failed Rooiwal water project rather than specifically singling out Edwin Sodi, the investigation will encompass the entire situation. Given the ongoing cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, the SIU is committed to investigating the project and all relevant parties to ensure transparency and accountability.
