Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebogang Manyama missed the whole 2022/23 DStv Premiership season due to a knee injury. Here is the latest on the 32-year-old.
Manyama parted company with the Soweto giants last year in June following the end of his contract.
In the early stages of this season, he was training with Cape Town City hoping to earn himself a contract at his former side.
However, Manyama, at the time had a knee injury that’s been haunting him for quite some time.
The Cape Town-based club allowed the Tembisa-born to undergo his rehabilitation at the club as they were already willing to sign him.
This publication got hold of the club’s chairman John Comitis who confirmed that Eric Tinkler’s side would welcome back Manyama in training when he’s ready to return to the field.
He also admitted that they would consider re-signing the 2016/17 PSL Footballer of the Season if he’s in good condition.
COMITIS ON POSSIBLE RETURN OF FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STAR LEBOGANG MANYAMA TO CITY
“He was training with us [earlier this season], he’s in a rehab programme, when he is alright, he’s gonna come back and train with us as well,” Comitis told FARPost.
When asked if they would be interested in re-signing the attacking midfielder, Comitis said, “Yes, if he is fit and good to go.
“He’s gonna come to the pre-season and we’ll see how he manages.”
Manyama’s first spell saw him hitting the net on 16 occasions and providing 12 assists in the 56 appearances he collected.
In the 2016/17 season, he helped the Western Cape-based side win the Telkom Knockout Cup. He also won the Absa Premiership Golden Boot award after fining as a top-goal scorer with 13 goals.
NYAMA IN AND MDANTSANE OUT?
Meanwhile, according to multiple reports, City are gunning for the signature of TS Galaxy left-footer Tshegofatso Nyama.
On the other hand, the club is preparing for life without Mduduzi Mdantsane who will be joining Kaizer Chiefs next season as per SABC Sport. The signing of Manyama would perhaps fill the former Baroka FC’s captain void.
