Marumo Gallants midfielder Lucky ‘Fabregas’ Mohomi has admitted going all the way in the CAF Confederations Cup won’t mean anything, if his side gets related from the DStv Premiership.
Gallants are on a continental joy ride in Africa’s second biggest club competition, making the semi-finals against all odds.
But they have it all to do against Young Africans of Tanzania, in the second leg of their semi-final tie in Rustenburg on Wednesday after Yanga picked up a 2-0 win in first leg in their backyard from a week ago.
At the same time, the Limpopo side are also battling relegation in the domestic league, as they dropped to second from bottom on the log tied on 29 points with Chippa United, while Maritzburg United moved one point clear of them following their 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.
Bahlabane ba ntwa have a chance to turn their CAF Confederations Cup tie around and qualify for their first ever Confed Cup final, but Mohomi told iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago it hasn’t been easy juggling the two competition and they know what’s at stake.
“So juggling the two is really difficult because the matches, the travelling. And you know Marumo we always have away games, even when we are playing our home games we are away,” the 32 year old told iDiski Times.
“So far we’ve done better because we were strictly at the bottom of the log. So right now we have that hope and that belief and the fight for that last game of the season that’s still coming up. We are going to take it head on and try to get a positive result and try to survive because this is our livelihood, our jobs, our careers”
“If you look on the other side CAF might not mean anything if we get relegated. We will be struggling, our families will be struggling so I think the fear is more on being relegated in the league. In CAF it’s more about enjoying and experiencing life outside South Africa and mingling with other nations.
“We considered what’s on the line and I think we handled it so well and we were just unfortunate in our previous game against Sundowns but we are looking at the Swallows game, hopefully it will be a good result then we’ll stay up.”
