The Phalaborwa municipality is in a state of sorrow and grief following the untimely death of one of its esteemed political leaders. Councillor Denise Bayana tragically lost her life on Friday, May 12, in a devastating car accident. This heartbreaking news was confirmed by Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor, Cllr Merriam Malatji, who expressed shock and devastation over the sudden passing of Cllr Bayana.
Describing Cllr Bayana as a disciplined, selfless, and hard-working councillor, Mayor Malatji struggled to come to terms with this tragic loss. It is indeed a sad and difficult time for everyone involved.
Cllr Denise Bayana had a remarkable career before joining Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality. She served as the former HOD/Head of Department (African Language) at Ntshuxeko High School in Majeje for over two decades. After the 2016 local government elections, she became a PR Councillor, contributing her skills and dedication to the municipality’s development. At the time of her passing, she was responsible for the Department of Planning and Development.
The entire community, along with Mayor Malatji, extends their deepest sympathies to the Bayana family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly challenging time. The loss of such a dedicated and respected councillor has left a void that will be difficult to fill.
To honor and remember Cllr Denise Bayana, a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at Lulekani Community Hall, starting at 13:00. Additionally, the Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Impala Park Hall.
The community has come together to provide support and comfort to the grieving family. Daily prayers will be held, starting from today, May 15, 2023, at 17:00, at house no. 1087 Zone B Lulekani. These prayers aim to offer solace and strength during this difficult period.
The loss of Cllr Denise Bayana serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the impact that dedicated individuals can have on their communities. Her unwavering commitment and contribution will be forever remembered.
