Ahly Legend Hails Tau Comeback After Koller Arrival

Al Ahly legend Emad Moteab has hailed the turnaround in the fortunes of Percy Tau since the arrival of Marcel Koller.

Tau looked poised to be heading out the exit door at the club after Pitso Mosimane’s surprise departure as he struggled to maintain fitness and was subject to waves of attacks from former players and Egyptian media.

However, the arrival of the experienced Swiss coach, who replaced Ricardo Soares has seen a major upturn in form for the Bafana Bafana star, who netted two goals in the 3-0 semi-final first-leg win over Esperance on Friday evening in Tunis.

“Continuity is the key to Percy Tau’s success with Al Ahly in recent matches,” Moteab, who won 29 trophies with Ahly between 2003 and 2018 told Bein Sport as per Veto Gate.

“Percy used to play two matches before breaking down with an injury and he was away from matches for a long time, then he returned and the same thing happened to him.

“But his extended run in the team, even when he was far from his technical readiness, brought him back to the form of matches that only come with consistent selection.

“Tau is currently in full fitness and full artistic performance. He scored two goals [against Esperance] and played an important role [for the team].

“These are advantages that should be credited to [Koller] who dealt with him well and with all the players.

“The current generation has the ability to achieve what happened in 2005 and 2006, 2007 and 2008, four consecutive finals Al Ahly won three of them, and I hope that the team wins this year.”

The 28-year-old forward has scored 15 goals and registered 10 assists in 59 games for the Red Devils since his switch from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
