Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has sent a warning to his players after their demolition job over CR Belouizdad at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on Saturday.
Mokwena’s men came up with a superb performance after four winless games, including their first defeat since Mokwena had taken over, beating Belouizdad 4-1.
The massive away win saw Sundowns put one foot into the semi-final, with Mokwena praising his players after the final whistle.
“Credit to the players – big personality, big performance and a lot of respect and credit must go to the players, [they are] incredible human beings,”
“I said to you in the press conference that I had warm feelings because we are honest people and we do our best every single time.”
However, Mokwena insisted Sundowns cannot be complacent and need to finish the job at Loftus Versfeld next week.
“No, stranger things have happened in football. [We have] a lot of humility. We beat a very good side. We still have to face a very good side in Pretoria.
“Top coach, top players and it’s only halfway.”
Sundowns have been knocked out at the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League in their last three seasons and could reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2018/19.
In the tie between their potential semi-final opponents, Simba SC beat defending champions Wydad Athletic Club 1-0 in Tanzania.
