Lehloholo Seema is set to be appointed as Chippa United coach, iDiski Times has learnt.
Chippa are without a coach at the moment, after Kurt Lentjies was demoted last week to the DStv Diski Challenge team and Siyabulela Gwambi took over as the caretaker coach – with the club confirming he was supposed to be on the sidelines until the end of the season.
However, Gwambi, who led Chippa to their first final of the Nedbank Cup final in the 2020/21 season, has failed to win the two matches in charge.
They lost 3-1 to Marumo Gallants, a game that was a proverbial six-pointer in the DStv Premiership relegation race last Wednesday, and followed that up with a 2-1 loss to Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
The club is currently lying second from bottom with 26 points after 26 matches, searching a first league win in seven matches.
In a last-ditch attempt to save the Chilli Boys, trigger-happy chairman Chippa Mpengesi has turned to Seema, who also saved the club from relegation in the 2020/21 season via the controversial playoffs.
However, Seema couldn’t last longer as he was already snapped up by Golden Arrows at that time and Mpengesi cried foul then, saying it was the first time a coach had left him without being fired and thanked Seema for saving his club.
Seema was then sacked by Arrows towards the end of the 2021/22 season, in April to be precise, following a 6-0 loss to all conquering Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic coach is already on Chippa’s system, coaching the club’s development team Peacemakers in the ABC Motsepe League, who recently announced his arrival.
The former Lesotho international is likely to be on the bench when Chippa host Kaizer Chiefs on 27 April at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Seema will be fifth coach this season for the club, following Daine Klate, Morgan Mammila, Lentjies and Gwambi, who is set to be his assistant coach for the remainder of the season.
Seema’s stay will also depend if he performs well at the club as Mpengesi doesn’t waste time to fire coaches if the results are not forthcoming, even if it’s just two matches as we have seen with Gwambi.
