Department of Correctional Services said the convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester was taken to the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional and NOT to the Manguang Correctional Centre.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said they have noted false information that Thabo Bester was returned to Manguang Correctional Centre.

“We can state that he was transported to the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional facility.”

He furthermore added that Thabo is taking his meals and that no complaints have been filed about threats to his life.
Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi revealed on Friday that Thabo does not appear in any of their databases.

NO COMPLAINTS WERE FILED ABOUT THREATS ON HIS LIFE
Motsoaledi held a briefing on aspects relating to his department on Friday, 14 April, in Pretoria, Gauteng.
The first database, the National Population Register, found a 19-year-old Thabo Bester, who presented himself to prove that he was not the one police were looking for.

THABO BESTER IS MISSING FROM HOME AFFAIRS RECORDS
Motsoaledi said they then interviewed Thabo’s mother, Maria Mabaso, to find out more about her son’s birth.
It was revealed that Thabo was born in South Africa on 13 June 1986 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Gauteng, and his mother was registered as a Bester in the labor ward. However, when she finally went to register her own identity document at Home Affairs, she used the surname Mabaso which is her aunt’s.
