SuperSport United winger Thapelo Maseko’s breakout season in the DStv Premiership has not gone unnoticed, with an offer from Europe having already been made for the 19-year-old.
Last week iDiski Times learnt that a Belgian club, believed to be Westerlo, had already submitted an offer for Maseko, who has had an impressive season under Gavin Hunt this campaign.
Westerlo is a club familiar with South African players. Burnley’s Lyle Foster was recently at the club, and in the past, Bafana Bafana players like Elrio Van Heerden also featured for the Antwerp province club.
The Belgium club, and others, have been monitoring Maseko’s progress, and Westerlo are have turned that interest into a firm offer.
However, it is believed that the offer may not match SuperSport’s valuation of their young star, and the Tshwane-club could hold out for a better deal from local clubs or abroad.
Maseko, who turns 20 at the end of the year, has featured in 19 league games this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist. His performances also earned him a call-up to David Notoane’s U23 setup.
He made his debut in 2021/2022, but only made four starts in a total of 8 appearances.
Maseko’s Belgium-based representative Lance Davids was in Cape Town last week for the Bayhill Premier Cup and iDiski Times sought clarity on the potential offer.
“There is an offer on the table,” Davids told iDiski Times.
“We would love to see Thapelo make the move to Europe, but his future is in his SuperSport’s hands.”
