Stellenbosch FC have completed the signing of South Africa youth international goalkeeper Dejean Ah Shene on a long-term contract.

The 18-year-old is among the most highly-rated prospects in South African football, standing at about 1.95m tall and having made his first-team debut aged 16 in the ABC Mostepe League.

Ah Shene was also the player of the tournament at the 2019 Engen Knockout Challenge and is now taking a huge next step in his career with Stellies.

The club previously secured the likes of Antonio van Wyk from the same academy system and he’s since developed into one of their first-team regulars.

“The way that the Stellenbosch F.C. first team gives players opportunities in the PSL was really a motivating factor, and left me to think that I could also be there one day because I know I have the potential to fulfill that dream,” Ah Shene said upon his unveiling.

“Seeing the style of play that Stellenbosch plays compared to other PSL teams also encouraged me.

“The team likes moving the ball around and that’s the way I like to play, because I like building up from the back.”

The teenager will form part of the DStv Diski Challenge squad and look to compete with Sage Stephens and club captain Lee Langeveld for a place in the first-team squad.
