Cardoso Makes Huge Bafana Claim

Sekhukhune United defender Daniel Cardoso has insisted that Bafana Bafana should qualify for every international tournament.

The last time Bafana qualified for the African Cup Of Nations was back in 2019 when Egypt hosted and they went all the way to the quarter-finals after knocking out the hosts on home soil before losing to Nigeria.

It’s been 21 years since the last time they qualified for a FIFA World Cup, while in 2010 they participated as the hosts.

On Tuesday, qualification is once again on the line, with a win in Liberia securing South Africa’s ticket to the upcoming AFCON in Ivory Coast, while a defeat or low-scoring will see the hosts go through.

Babina Noko’s veteran defender sees no reason not to qualify as he mentioned that the country have Mamelodi Sundowns that are competing in Africa and he insists with the type of players South Africa has Bafana should qualify for every football tournament.

“I think it’s very important for them to qualify because we failed to qualify for the last one AFCON],” Cardoso told Sekhukhune’s media department.

“And with the caliber of players we have in our country, if you look at Sundowns… I mean we competing in the best of Africa, so I don’t see why we shouldn’t be competing [with Bafana].

“We should be in each and every tournament, we should be qualifying for the World Cup. We compete at the highest club level. What is stopping us from competing at international level?

“I know most international teams have players in Europe but it doesn’t mean that it will be hard.

“It’s very important for the country as a whole and for footballing aspects otherwise European countries don’t take us seriously in terms of picking young players and go play in Europe.”

Morocco has already secured qualification from Group K after beating both South Africa and Liberia, while Zimbabwe – the fourth team in the group – are still suspended by FIFA.
