Bobby’s Call Was Happiest Day Of My Life – Katsande

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Zimbabwe midfielder Willard Katsande, says among some of the best days of his playing career, was the day he got a call from Bobby Motaung.

Katsande was speaking to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 94 of the newspaper, where he speaks about life as an ambassador for his former side Sekhukhune United and his businesses.

The 37-year-old says the moment sticks out because he had given up on having a career in South Africa.

“Obviously my highlight was when I was signed by Chiefs because at some point I had already given up and felt I had failed in South African football,” Katsande told iDiski Times.

“But boom Bobby [Motaung] just came in when we [Zimbabwe] were playing the Zambia national team during the FIFA break in August.

“He told Nengomasha [Tinashe] that I want this player and why is he not playing at Ajax [Cape Town]. Boom the next thing I got a contract then I managed to play for Chiefs.

“And also breaking into the Chiefs set up, it was funny but I take it as a highlight of my career because nobody gave me a chance until I’d proven myself and people fell in love with me.

“But I had to teach myself because I came to this country without playing that position and without anyone teaching me. I had to teach myself from scratch.”
