Official: Ex-Chiefs Man Castro Lands New Club

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro has finally secured himself a new club, joining United States side Greenville Triumph.

Castro, 33, had been part of Chiefs’ exodus at the end of last season and had returned to his home country Colombia, but had struggled to secure a new club.

However, this week the experienced striker was unveiled as new signing by the League One club, pending league and federal approval.

“We’re delighted we’ve been able to secure Leo’s services”, John Harkes, Triumph SC head coach & sporting director told his club’s website.

“He’s a top professional, a great leader, and brings much-needed quality and composure in the attacking third.

“His experiences throughout his career show that not only can he score goals, but that he likes to be in competitive environments.

“His winning attitude brings a positive influence to the team culture and attitude of the squad. We’re excited to welcome Leo and his family into our soccer family!”

Pending approval, Castro could make his debut in his new side’s league opener against Richmond Kickers on Saturday, 25 March.

Castro joins Triumph SC after four seasons with Kaizer Chiefs FC. Prior to moving to the Chiefs and three years with Mamelodi Sundowns.

In his three years at Chloorkop, he played in 62 matches, recording 16 goals and eight assists, while hoisting the South African league title twice, winning the South African Cup, the CAF Champions League title and the CAF Super Cup.
