Intensified search continues for lion on the loose

The lion is still on the loose in Gauteng, and the search team is bringing in more resources to continue their search for the hairy and dangerous animal.

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR LION IN GAUTENG

Arthur Crewe of the Strategic Response Rescue Unit (SRU) says they are still searching along the R511 near the Hennopstrail.

“We are still working on information in the same area as yesterday. The search will continue throughout the day as we will be using more resources to try and locate the lion on the loose,” says Crewe.

He said there is currently no danger and no new citings of the lion.

The lion was first spotted along R511 near the Hennopstrail. Crewe says they will continue to search this area.  

Crewe said the lion was first spotted in Gauteng in the early hours on Wednesday afternoon, 8 March 2023.

“The lion was spotted around 02:00 by a security response officer on the R511 close to the Hennopstrail in Gauteng. We had a second sighting, so it is confirmed a lion,” says Crewe.

“We actively look for the animal and ask residents not to shoot or approach it if they spot it,” says Crewe.
