Banyana Banyana shared the spoils with Slovenia, playing a 1-all draw in the Turkish Women’s Cup clash at the Emirhan Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Head coach Desiree Ellis would have hoped for another win, having started the tournament like a house on fire when they thrashed Uzbekistan 3-0 last Saturday.

The 2022 CAF Africa Women’s Cup Nations [WAFCON] winners were caught napping when Adrijana Mori broke the deadlock in the 13th minute for Slovenia.

South Africa started a bit slow but regained momentum after conceding a goal.

However, the opposition offered no room, thanks to their quality and the pressure they enforced on the African champions whenever they were off the ball.

BANYANA BANYANA FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO BREAKTHROUGH

As the half progressed, Banyana still struggled to break through the opposition’s resilient defence.

With that, Slovenia came into the break 1-0 up against South Africa.

In the second stanza, South Africa had a couple of chances but failed to capitalise on their scoring opportunities.

It was a repeat of what happened in the first half as Slovenia continued their relentless way of doing things, denying Ellis’ charges time and space on the ball.

Banyana struggled to threaten the Slovenian goalkeeper majority of the second stanza.

Ellis threw on all the weapons she had on the bench. She brought in the likes of Jermaine Seoposenwe and Linda Motlhalo.

However, the Slovenian defence was equal to the task, denying Banyana an equaliser. South Africa desperately chased the game with the hope of pulling one back.

HILDAH MAGAIA SCORES AN EQUALISER

Banyana’s prayers were finally answered in the 76th minute when Hildah Magaia levelled matters.

Ultimately, both teams had to settle for a draw after an eventful 90 minutes of mouthwatering showdown.
