Burnley FC coach Vincent Kompany has allayed Lyle Foster injury fears ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers.
The Bafana Bafana forward, Lyle Foster, limped off after making his first start for Burnley FC against Ipswich Town on February 8 2023 in an FA Cup clash.
The former Orlando Pirates star left the Turf Moor pitch visibly in pain with three minutes remaining on the clock as Burnley beat Ipswich Town 2-1.
The ex-DStv Premiership attacker, Lyle Foster, made his third appearance for Burnley after featuring in the Emirates FA Cup match replay.
WHY LYLE FOSTER’S INJURY WAS A SOURCE OF CONCERN
However, the South African’s evening turned sour after what appeared a serios injury.
Foster’s injury was certainly a concern to Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos ahead of the AFCON qualifiers next month.
The towering striker is among the players Broos will bank on when Bafana Bafana face Liberia in a Group K match on the weekend of March 21 2023.
VINCENT KOMPANY PROVIDES LYLE FOSTER INJURY UPDATE
Vincent Kompany has since provided an injury update on Foster.
The Manchester City legend gave the update on Foster, Jay Rodrigues, Aro Muric and Manuel Benson.
Kompany told Burnley Express TV that the injury of Foster was nothing more than severe cramp.
“It is cramps, but it is exactly the reason why, I think, you want these young, talented players, early to go through these kinds of games,” he said.
“It was not the intensify of even a regular Championship game, it was proper physical game, no bad taste, no bad moment, so you can learn a lot from this.”
However, the Clarets boss was non-comital when asked if Foster would be available when they host Preston North End on Saturday.
WHAT NEXT FOR BURNLEY IN THEIR PROMOTION PUSH?
Burnley are eyeing a record matching 10th win in the Sky Bet Championship match against the Lancashire opponents.
Speaking at the Burnley FC Training Ground on Thursday, Kompany said: “The boys have been doing really well for a while now.
“We just have to look forward to the next game which is Preston. That’s the only thing we have on our minds now.”
Kompany as elusive when asked to mention the availability of specific players such as Foster.
The South African signed a long-term contract with Burnley weeks ago from K.V.C Westerlo of Belgium.
