Riveiro Hints At Future New Coach At Pirates

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has hinted they may seek to bring in a permanent striker coach after the success of Scott Chickleday at the club.

The renowned English coach who works with Premier League strikers joined Pirates on a short-term contract amidst a poor run in the league – but after his arrival, they netted nine goals in three games before the defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Riveiro admits it was an eye-opening experience to work with him and perhaps it’s something that will become more common in football.

“It was a new thing for all of us to have a striker coach in the staff, it was an interesting experience. I said many times in five or six years it’s not going to be a question in a press conference, we won’t talk about this as it will be an ordinary thing,” Riveiro said when asked by iDiski Times about Chickelday.

“It was a first touch with that experience for the club, we’re in a club that is always looking for improvement in every area, every department, we tried to go ahead and the presence of Scott was positive.

“We tried to continue also… from the things we learned from Scott, to implement in our group, to continue working on it, and who knows maybe in the future, Scott or somebody else is part of our staff, it’s something we still have possibilities to discuss.

“For me as a head coach, it’s about learning [more], how to work with a figure like that and try to get as much [information] as possible from a specialist like Scott in the group.”

Pirates will now look to the Nedbank Cup to get their season back on track as they face All Stars at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday evening (20h00).
