Former Bafana Boss Appointed As Qatar Coach

Former Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz has been appointed as new head coach of Qatar.

Queiroz and assistant coach Roger De Sa’s contracts with Iran recently came to an end, after they led the Middle Eastern team at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022.

Prior to that engagement, De Sa teamed up with Queiroz to lead the Egyptian national team, where they narrowly missed out on qualification for the World Cup, after losing in a penalty shootout to Senegal.

Under Queiroz and De Sa, Egypt also finished as runners-up at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations, where they also lost via penalties against Senegal.

There had been rumours that Queiroz was close to being appointed as head coach of China, but he has now been unveiled by Qatar.

It remains to be seen whether Roger de Sa will once again follow Queiroz and become part of his technical team at Qatar.
