Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have been named the Best Women’s Club in Africa by the International Federation of Football and Statistics (IFFHS).
The team coached by Jerry Tshabalala finished runners-up in the CAF Women’s Champions League after being beaten 4-0 by Moroccan side ASFAR in the final.
Downs Ladies also lost the COSAFA region final, going down on penalties to Green Buffalos, but they did manage to defend their Hollywoodbets Super League title after winning the treble in the previous campaign.
With the South African Women’s top flight set to return, IFFHS announced the best women’s club of 2022.
“South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns became the IFFHS best women’s club in Africa in 2022,”
“They finished on top ahead of FAR Rabat (Morocco) and Bayelsa Queens (Nigeria).
“The ranking is based on the performance of clubs in international and national tournaments within the last 12 months.”
