Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. A yellow Level-2 warning: Severe thunderstorm with heavy downpours, damaging winds and lightning will result in localised flooding of susceptible informal settlements, low-lying roads/areas, poor driving conditions due to pooling of water on roads, reduced visibility and localised service disruptions due to increased lightning activity over Free State, North West, eastern Highveld of Mpumalanga, extreme southern Limpopo and the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

B. A yellow Level-4 warning: Disruptive rainfall.. will result in localised flooding of susceptible informal settlements, low-lying roads/areas, poor driving conditions due to pooling of water on roads,reduced visibility over Gauteng, extreme eastern parts of the North west, eastern parts of the Free state and the western Highveld of Mpumalanga.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern part of the Northern Cape, as well as the western part of both the North-West and Free State.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with widespread showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme north-east, but scattered to widespread in the Highveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the Lowveld and Limpopo Valley, but scattered in the extreme south-west.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the southeast.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the east where it will be cloudy.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Very hot in the north, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the north-east with isolated thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy over the Overberg, south-eastern Cape Winelands and Central Karoo districts in the morning, otherwise fine and warm to hot but cool along the south-western coastline. It will be windy between Hout Bay and Danger Point.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate northerly to north-westerly north of Saldanha Bay, but strong easterly between Pearly Beach and Plettenberg Bay, otherwise strong to gale force southerly to south-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Fine and warm but cool along the coast, becoming partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers in the north east.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh easterly.

The Eastern half -Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the east.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be Light north easterly, becoming fresh by afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool but warm in places in the north with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate southerly to south-easterly in the north at first, otherwise easterly to north-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.
