Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag was full of praise for Benni McCarthy, saying he’s “lucky to have him” as part of his technical team.
McCarthy has received a lot of love from United fans over the turn in form of the club’s strikers, in particular Marcus Rashford, who has already scored three times as many goals as during the whole of last season.
The South African started his word as first-team coach in the beginning of the season after he was relieved of his duties by AmaZulu in March 2022.
It seems McCarthy has really hit the ground running, with Ten Hag also full of praise for the Bafana Bafana all-time record goalscorer, who filled a void in the Dutchman’s backroom staff.
“In our coaching staff, we had a lot of defenders and midfield players,” Ten Hag told the club’s media team.
“I wanted also to find a good balance. He is offensive [minded] as he is a former striker and that is also a really specific job task in the team.
“I never played there, so I’m lucky to have someone in my staff who played there. Football is about scoring and you have a goalkeeping specialist, but you also have offensive specialists and, in particular, we have a specific scoring trainer.
“He has to add that, in details, working and for the rest of us, he has a relationship to all the players in our squad. He also has to work on the togetherness and he is doing a great job on that.”
Manchester United are currently on a run of nine successive wins and have climbed into fourth place on the Premier League log, nine points behind run-away leaders Arsenal.
