Singer Ciara has openly dismissed critics who label her husband, NFL star Russell Wilson, as “corny.”
Speaking on the popular US radio show The Breakfast Club, Ciara clearly showed she will not engage with such negative opinions.
CIARA ON HER HUSBAND
When asked by host Charlamagne tha God about her reaction to people calling Russell “corny,” the singer replied, “I don’t even have to reply to that.”
She added firmly, “Why would I even respond to that, you know what I’m saying? I know what I know, and that’s all that matters.”
Ciara, 39, praised her husband, 36-year-old Russell Wilson, as “the most amazing human being you can know.”
She said, “The smartest, most intelligent Black man that I have ever known.” She emphasised that what people see in Russell is genuine, according to People.
“What you see with him is really who he is. So, it’s beautiful, it’s different.”

The radio hosts brought up the fact that some men call Wilson a “simp”, a slang term implying he is overly affectionate or submissive to his partner.
Ciara replied thoughtfully, “Well, I think it depends on… well, who’s the man saying it? I’m not going down a specific lane, I’m just saying, who’s the man saying it?”
She continued, “It’s like someone saying the person doesn’t love someone, but have you ever loved someone, right?
Have you ever been loved right? Sometimes people speak out of pocket because they just don’t know.”
CIARA ON FOCUSING ON LOVE
Instead of feeling upset, Ciara said she prefers to “God bless them.” She told listeners, “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I don’t have to live my life to prove anything to anybody.”
She concluded with a strong message: “Too bad for them if they want to live life a certain way and love people a certain way.”
Russell Wilson and Ciara have been married since July 2016 after meeting in 2015. They share three children. Ciara also has a son from a previous relationship.
WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
In July 2025, Wilson celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary with a heartfelt tribute on social media.
He wrote, “From the moment I met you, I knew God was showing me the way.” He added that every day since has been “full of love, laughter, purpose, and the kind of partnership I used to pray for.”
Wilson ended by calling Ciara his queen and saying, “You light up my life in ways words can’t explain. Here’s to the journey we’ve walked … and the one we’re still writing together. I love you, endlessly.”
Ciara and Russell’s relationship shows strength and love that transcends public criticism. As Ciara said, it’s about knowing the truth of your heart and ignoring the noise.
