Ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Lazarous Kambole has rejoined Zambian club Zesco United, while Austin Muwowo has left the club.
Zesco spokesman Desmond Katongo announced Kambole’s return to the nine-time Zambia champions on a short-term deal.
LAZAROUS KAMBOLE ON THE MOVE
“Zesco United is delighted to announce the signing of Lazarus Kambole on a six-month loan move from Tanzanian giants Young Africans,” Katongo said.
“United have reached an agreement with Young Africans, allowing Kambole to reunite with coach George Lwandamina for the rest of the season.
“Kambole will be a huge boost to the ZESCO United squad, especially at a time when Lwandamina is working tirelessly to build a strong side.”
Kambole, 28, left Zesco in July 2019 to join Chiefs. However, his move would be an unsuccessful spell with the Soweto giants.
He joined Chiefs after inspiring Zesco to their eighth league title with 16 goals in the 2019 season.
Kambole was also Zambia’s top scorer in the 2018/2019 CAF competition with seven goals.
One of those goals was against Chiefs in a 3-0 home win at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on January 13 in a CAF Confederation Cup pre-group stage first-leg fixture.
After leaving Chiefs, Kambole joined defending Tanzanian champions Young Africans.
However, Kambole has also struggled to settle with the Dar es Salaam giants.
Kambole returns to a Zesco side struggling outside its familiar top-four territory.
Zesco are currently 10th on the log with 25 points from 19 games played. With 15 games left to play, they trail 12 points behind leaders Power Dynamos.
MUWOWO LEAVES ZESCO
Meanwhile, Kambole’s arrival sees the exit of another former PSL player from Zesco.
Ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder Austin Muwowo has left Zesco six months after joining them on a free transfer. Muwowo joined Pirates in 2019 from Zambian giants Nkana.
The Zambian striker spent his last days at Pirates on loan at Swallows.
