‘I feel like I personally failed you Mam’Nandi’: Zenande Mfenyana

As the nation mourns the passing of veteran actress Nandi Nyembe, actress Zenande Mfenyana took to X to honour her memory.

Mfenyana and the late actress starred alongside each other on Ashes to Ashes and The Queen.

The Inimba star reflected on a tender moment during her pregnancy with the late Nandi Nyembe, recalling her warmth and guidance.

She admitted feeling as though she personally failed the legend and wished she could have done more to show her appreciation.

Her tweet read: “I remember during my pregnancy how she fondly held my hand and told me that I shouldn’t let just anyone stroke my belly. I feel like I personally failed you Mam’ Nandi, and I’m sorry I didn’t do more 💔 #RIPNandiNyembe.”

In another tweet, she said working with Nandi Nyembe deeply impacted her, and her passing has left her heartbroken.

“From growing up watching Mam’Nandi on Kideo telling us African stories, to having the honour and pleasure of working alongside her on Ashes to Ashes & The Queen…my heart is shattered #RIPNandiNyembe.”

NANDI’S FAMILY ANNOUNCES HER PASSING

Nandi Nyembe starred in iconic South African shows, including Zone 14, Isibaya, and Soul City, leaving a lasting cultural impact.

Her passing was confirmed on Saturday evening, 23 August 2025, by her family and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

“It is with profound sorrow that the Nyembe Family, together with the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, announce the passing of one of South Africa’s most treasured icons of the arts, Mam’ Nandi Nyembe,” read a statement.

“Mam’ Nandi was far more than an actress; she was the very soul of South African storytelling. A teacher, a guide, and a mother to this nation, she carried our struggles, our laughter, and our victories through every performance with truth, dignity, and heart. Through her life and work, she gave our people pride and our stories, a purpose.”
