Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior insists the club has plans to replace Njabulo Blom after selling the versatile star.
Blom featured as both a fullback and defensive midfielder during his time at Kaizer Chiefs, offering utility to Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter and Arthur Zwane.
Who will replace Njabulo Blom
In truth, Kaizer Chiefs likely won’t find someone with the utility and quality of Blom.
However, it is possible that multiple players will be asked to fill the void left by the 23-year-old.
Blom is headed to St Louis FC to work with former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana fullback Bradley Carnell, who will be the head coach for next season.
Kaizer Chiefs set for squad audit
It seems the departure of Blom has prompted Kaizer Chiefs to perform a squad audit to determine exactly where they need to focus their recruiting gaze.
“We have many plans around that. As I have said before, we are trying to build a young, dynamic squad with the right mix of youth and top-quality experience,” Motaung told KaizerChiefs.com.
“We are already working on our squad audit and the areas we feel we need to beef up. Opportunities arise when someone leaves; it opens the door for someone else to put their hand up and start their own journey.
“So, we are well aware and we have long prepared for this eventuality, and someone else now has a chance to stake a claim for a place in the team.
“Obviously, much thought went into this and we are feeling very positive about the way forward.”
It would appear that Kaizer Chiefs were all to happy to collect a fee for a player who might have left for a PSL rival for free at the end of the season.
That Blom has moved abroad seemingly on an upward trajectory is a good ending to a contract saga that threatened to turn ugly.
