Grobler Aims To Break Bhele’s PSL Record

SuperSport United veteran striker Bradley Grobler says he wants to chase the PSL record which is held by Siyabonga Nomvethe and break it.

Nomvethe is the PSL all time goal scorer with 123 goals in the top flight after retiring with AmaZulu in the 2018/19 season.

Grobler, since he made his top flight debut on 26 August 2007 against Bloemfontein Celtic when he was at Platinum Stars under Owen da Gama, has scored 96 goals.

His first goal came against Kaizer Chiefs on 20 December 2008 in the game ended 2-2 draw. He was 20 years, 10 months and 25 days old. Interestingly, Chiefs is the club he has scored most goals against at SuperSport which is 10.

He is just four goals shy of breaking the 100th mark and 27 behind Bhele’s record.

Had it not been injuries, Grobler would have long passed 100th mark of goals, having missed almost the whole of last season for SuperSport due to an injury.

“This is the same as SuperSport. We are not a team that will win the league, but one thing I can guarantee you is, I’ll try and break that record,”  said Grobler.

“A lot of people think that, at 34 years old, you sort of become old. For me it’s not. I feel good now as I have for a long time. I’ll push myself to go for that.”

Grobler entered the folklore of SuperSport in the 2020/21 season when he scored against TS Galaxy in January last year to pull him level on 57 goals with the now late Abram Raselemane to become United’s joint all-time leading goal scorer.

The 34-year-old has since pulled himself clear as he is now the all time goal scorer for the club with 71 goals in 231 appearances, having joined Matsantsantsa from Cape Town Spurs in the second half of the 2012/13 season.

Since Grobler arrived, he has won two MTN8 cups, two Nedbank Cups and one Telkom Knockout. He was part of the SuperSport side that lost the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Congolese giants TP Mazembe in the 2017. He said being the club’s all time goal scorer is a “nice feeling”.

“It’s great feeling,” Grobler reflected.
