Former Chippa United coach Mark Harrison has said he is yearning for his first silverware in Malawi.

Harrison will lead Mighty Mukuru Wanderers when they take on rivals Nyasa Big Bullets in the Airtel Top 8 final on Sunday in Lilongwe.

Reflecting on Saturday’s match, Mark Harrison told FARPost that he was looking forward to his latest collection of silverware.

“Playing in the Airtel Top 8 final is great and to win would be even better,” he said.

“As a professional coach, you are always looking to improve and win trophies, so it would great to get another winners’ medal on the table.”

The ex-Golden Arrows coach Harrison goes into the final at Bingu National Stadium undefeated in five games in all competitions.

Mark Harrison first joined Wanderers as technical director to work with then coach Alex Ngwira.

Management for the Blantyre-based Wanderers eventually made Harrison both technical director and coach.

Wanderers, who share the same sponsorship with Crystal Palace, hired Harrison in October this year.

The English coach, who also led Township Rollers to Botswana Premier League title a few years ago, signed a two-year contract with Wanderers.

The 62-year-old Harrison is a well-travelled coach in Africa. He also managed Caps United and Highlanders in Zimbabwe.

His last job last year was with Gor Mahia in Kenya.

Wanderers are seven-time winners of the Malawi Super League championship followed by Silver Strikers’ eight titles and 15 for Bullets.

Harrison has a task to ensure that Wanderers get some consolation this season.

The Airtel Top 8 presents Wanderers their only opportunity to win silverware this season.

The Top 8 cup involves teams that finish in top-eight bracket of the domestic TNM Super League.

They are up against near invincible Bullets who swept the rest of the trophies—Super League and FDH Cup.
