New Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller has praised Percy Tau’s display after the Bafana Bafana winger crowned his return to the starting XI with a goal.
Tau featured for the first time in Koller’s line-up and immediately found the back of the net in Al Ahly’s 2-0 win over Ghazl El-Mahalla.
It was Tau’s first league goal since November 2021 and his first since a brace in the CAF Champions League semi-final against ES Setif in May.
Koller was impressed with the display of the 27-year-old, not just because of his goal.

“I knew that Tau could play as a striker and he played very well, but he wasn’t 100% fit yet due to him returning from an injury,” he said, as per Kingfut.
“Tau’s movement in the first half was excellent and his high pressure on the defenders was great. I was impressed with his performance.”
Al Ahly have started the new season with five wins from five league games and continue their quest for the first league title since 2021 against sixth-placed Al Ittihad on 12 December.
Tau has featured in four leagues games this season so far, coming of the bench thrice.
