Goodman Mazibuko’s advice to PSL coaches

Former Swallows captain Goodman Mazibuko has sent a message to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) coaches, encouraging them to do more coaching courses as it will help in future.

Mazibuko used Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane as a perfect example of a tactician with the right qualifications to lead a team at the highest level.

The retired midfielder, Mazibuko, says coaches who do not have the necessary coaching badges should upskill themselves and strive to gain more knowledge.

Then Royal AM co-coaches Khabo Zondo, Dan Malesela and Cape Town City’s Eric Tinkler were forced to coach their respective teams from the stands during the interclub CAF competition matches as they didn’t meet CAF’s coaching requirements to be able to sit on the bench as head coaches.

During the ongoing 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup break, many PSL coaches including Musa Nyatama of Swallows attended a CAF coaching course at SAFA Ekurhuleni.

The Soweto side caretaker coach, Nyatama, obtained the CAF C license coaching license along with the likes of ex-Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele and Vincent Kobola, formerly with Baroka.

Mazibuko strongly believes that a coaching qualification allows a coach to acquire the tools needed to succeed and gives one the advantage to get a job at the highest level.

“I’m happy with Arthur Zwane; I was with him at the CAF B license coaching course a while back. He’s involved in coaching badges, and he’s getting more experience from the class than just doing practicals,” Mazibuko told FARPost.

“You get that pressure from the supporters that helps you grow as a coach. All coaches will always tell you about pressure; the coaching courses will help the coaches on how to deal with football issues on and off the field.

“He’s [Zwane] going to be mature and become a great coach. We need many South African coaches to do these [coaching] courses.

The former Orlando Pirates attacker, Mazibuko, also stated that having more locally qualified coaches will benefit SA football at large.

“This will, in turn, improve our football standards,” he said.

“With the right qualifications, a coach can get an opportunity to work anywhere in the world, and an opportunity will present itself,” added Mazibuko, who was Swallows’ assistant coach in 2014.

ARTHUR ZWANE’S COACHING BADGES

Amakhosi coach, Zwane boosts of CAF B, which he obtained in 2012, got the CAF A in 2015 and lastly, the UEFA B in 2019, just before COVID-19.

In his first season in charge of Chiefs as head coach Zwane is still trying to find his foot.

He has been in charge of 16 matches in all competitions and managed to register seven victories, five draws and four defeats.

The DStv Premiership will resume on December 30th following a one month break.
